It's time for the Crazy Cooking Challenge. This month's challenge is Apple Pie. Since my husband doesn't like apple pie, I have never made one before, so this was something new for me. My dad, however, loves apple pie, its one of his favorite desserts. So, I decided to make the apple pie for my dad and I brought it over one night when we had dinner with my family.

This is a traditional apple pie with a twist. The apple pie is flipped and is like a sticky bun on the bottom with pecans. This was seriously the best apple pie I have ever had!!! It was so delicious and the sticky bun topping added so much flavor to the apple pie!! Another thing that was nice is that I messed up the crust on top, but since I flipped the pie nobody even noticed. Next time you want to make a traditional apple pie, try flipping it instead and add this sweet glazed topping to the bottom of your pie!

Here is what the topping looks like before it is baked at the bottom of the pie plate

Then add in your crust on top and continue to make the apple pie like normal.

Upside Down Apple Pie(Recipe adapted from Pillsbury.com)
Glaze and Crust
1/2 cup packed brown sugar2 tablespoons butter, melted2 tablespoons corn syrup3/4 cup pecan halves1 box refrigerated pie crusts, softened according to the box instructions
Pie Filling
2/3 cup sugar2 tablespoons flour1/2 teaspoon cinnamon4 cups thinly sliced peeled apples (about 4 medium apples)
1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
2. In the bottom of a 9 inch pie plate, mix the brown sugar, butter, and corn syrup. Spread the mixture evenly in the bottom of the pie plate. Place the pecan halves evenly over the mixture.
3. Make the pie crust as directed on the box and place the bottom crust over the mixture in the pan.
4. In a small bowl mix the sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Arrange half of the apple slices on top of the crust in the pie plate. Sprinkle the apples with half of the sugar mixture and then repeat with the second half of the apples. Top with the second pie crust and seal the edges and flute. Cut several slits in the top of the pie crust.
5. Place the pie in the oven and bake for 8 minutes. Then reduce the temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
6. Once done immediately run a knife around the edges of the pie to loosen the crust. Place a serving plate upside down over the pie and turn the serving plate and the pie over. Once flipped, remove the pie plate.
